Reviving Ancestral Craftsmanship: The Cascahuin Tequila Design

Humberto Garcia's Award-Winning Design Merges Pre-Hispanic Inspiration with Modern Innovation

Inspired by pre-Hispanic ancestors, their crafts, and the stars, Humberto Garcia's Cascahuin Tequila packaging design is a testament to the fusion of tradition and innovation. This Silver A' Packaging Design Award-winning creation is not just a container, but a symbol of culture and craftsmanship.

Humberto Garcia's design for the Cascahuin Tequila packaging is a unique blend of cultural heritage and modern design principles. The inspiration for this design comes from pre-Hispanic ancestors, their crafts, their materials, and the use of the stars for decision making. This ancestral influence is evident in the design's unique properties, which include modifications to the mouth, ring, and neck of the bottle to accommodate a cork stopper. The brand's icon is also embossed on the neck of the bottle, adding a subtle strength and characteristic seal to the package.

The production process of the glass container is carried out by blow molding, a technique that allows for the creation of intricate shapes and designs. The base material is sodium-calcium glass, chosen for its durability and aesthetic appeal. The stopper, made from a type of cork known as Spark, is developed using selected natural cork grains and inked with food-grade vegetable pigments. This combination of materials and techniques results in a package that is both functional and visually striking.

The dimensions of the packaging are 70 mm x 70 mm x 260 mm, a size that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The design team, led by Creative Director Ana Paula Santana and Product Designer Irving Jimenez, began the project in April 2020 in Mexico and completed it in September of the same year. The team's dedication to the project is evident in the meticulous attention to detail and the high quality of the finished product.

The graphic identity of Tequila Cascahuin was developed from the conceptualization of three elements that affect the agricultural processes of the blue agave: the earth, the stars, and time. The design team faced challenges in the development of the bottle, particularly in the manufacture of the blown glass and the stone-carved cork. However, these challenges were overcome, resulting in a design that is both beautiful and functional.

The Cascahuin Tequila design was awarded Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation. This recognition is a testament to the skill and creativity of the design team, and a validation of their efforts to create a design that is both culturally significant and aesthetically pleasing.

In conclusion, Humberto Garcia's Cascahuin Tequila design is a remarkable fusion of tradition and innovation. It is a testament to the power of design to preserve and celebrate cultural heritage, while also pushing the boundaries of what is possible in modern packaging design.
